‘My Dad was right there in the middle of the storm’
This morning I was reading Proverbs chapter 3 and y’all that book is so profound.
Like so many of you I’ve had my share of raging winds and fierce storms.
I would like to say today that in the midst of the battles I faced I was strong and constantly trusting but that would be untrue. So yes, I fell flat on my face sometimes and I was able to stand at other times.
It wasn’t a lot of fun but I don’t think that’s the point of it. Recently I’ve learned that your process shapes you.
More than that though, you are carrying more weight than you ought to carry.
When Jesus was here walking the earth, just before he went to Heaven, He promised us Himself in the person of the Holy Spirit.
He said I will send you another of the same kind; the Comforter! Are we maximizing this friend? No, we’re carrying so much weight when we’ve been given a helper.
So while I was studying Proverbs today, I was struck!
The verses from 21 said really wonderful things like,
“Prov.3.23 – You’ll travel safely, you’ll neither tire nor trip.
Prov.3.24 – You’ll take afternoon naps without a worry, you’ll enjoy a good night’s sleep.
Prov.3.25 – No need to panic over alarms or surprises, or predictions that doomsday’s just around the corner.
Of course sometimes the car would have issues and there would be reasons to worry and of course there would be predictions of doom and all sorts of reasons to want to give up. Jesus did say in this life we would experience trouble.
But there’s a promise;
There’s a reason why you will dwell in safety and not worry:
“Prov.3.26 – Because GOD will be right there with you; he’ll keep you safe and sound.”
That’s a promise that God has kept time and again. I realized that God has been right there in the middle of my storms. He’s the reason I’m standing and His faithfulness is why I can be at rest and content in the middle of the fiercest storms.
And the best news is this: God never made a promise that was too good to be true! He keeps His word!
