Is God Really To Blame?

Then you called out to God in your desperate condition;

He got you out in the nick of time.

He spoke the word that healed you,

that pulled you back from the brink of death.

So thank God for his marvelous love,

for his miracle mercy to the children he loves;

Offer thanksgiving sacrifices,

Tell the world what he’s done – sing it out!

I’ve wanted to write this for about two weeks but I couldn’t just start. I understood that God placed this in my heart but I couldn’t find the words.

Eventually I realised that I just had to write one word at a time and trust that Papa will get across one person at a time.

It’s been long in coming actually. When bad things happen, we automatically understand and conclude that God is responsible. I mean it’s just logical since he’s creator and he’s sovereign.

So someone we love dies and that’s just one case against God. Or a little child is raped and God is just so unfair. What’s he doing over there in heaven anyway?

There’s just so much evil in this world. And bad things happen to the wonderful people and the bad guys.

And who’s to blame? The big guy up there.

This might be difficult but the truth is God is only good all the time. He doesn’t punish or destroy. He isn’t the bad guy neither is he responsible for the sad depressing things that we see on a daily.

God is good,

a hiding place in tough times.

He recognizes and welcomes

anyone looking for help,

No matter how desperate the trouble.

God actually delights in our joy and wellbeing.

Indeed God isn’t responsible for the bad things that happen but is very much in control and he always has a way of bringing life and beauty from alot of ugliness and loss.

Remember he said,

I’ve told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.”

Herein lies the reason and the key. We’re in the world and the devil is our next door neighbour and he’s only here to make life so difficult. In truth he’s the bad guy here but he’s a good liar so he’ll do the bad things and point fingers at God.

God only loves man that’s why he’s gone to such great lengths to save us. Why would he destroy us when he loves us and wants us saved?

The world is wicked and the imaginations of man is wicked. We sin and while God isn’t waiting to crush us, sin does have consequences.

However God is sovereign; bigger than any scheme of the devil or imagination of man. So if you can trust God and not blame him for the difficulties in your life, he’s able to make something colourful from a hopeless situation. It’s his specialty.

It’s equally important to take our stand against evil and cling to God’s promises.

“I tell you the truth, whatever you forbid on earth will be forbidden in heaven, and whatever you permit on earth will be permitted in heaven.

So we are powerful and able to conquer evil through the power of God at work in our lives.

Look at the life of Joseph. God did not make all those bad things happen to him. His brothers were jealous and they sold him, however God was still in control. At every turn God was there. Anybody could have bought Joseph but God placed Potiphar there. When he was framed and thrown into prison, God ensured he found favour right in those walls. And God wasn’t still done. Eventually he fulfilled his promise by bringing Joseph to a place of prominence.

No, God isn’t to blame for the bad things but He is in control and He has the capacity to turn things around.
