Sitting on the porch with a cup of tea in my hands, I watched with awe and wonder even as the giant sphere of sunlight slowly rose, illuminating the earth, casting soft golden rays on everything it touched, from the meandering stream to the soft dewy grass.
Everything was cast in a warm glow of light and beauty. In that still moment I realized, this is life as its fullest peak. And just like the morning sunrise, I wanted to live life, embracing it all; the good, bad and the ugly like never before.
Life is often described and compared with many analogies depending on whom you ask, as a song, a race, a puzzle, a trial and even as a stage in the words of the great literature genius, Shakespeare. Since the dawn of time, man has been obsessed with the mystery of life, from the view that life is transient to being eternal. Whilst saving the philosophical debate for another day, I have learnt to embrace life fully.
Embracing life fully means a lot of things; being in the present, pursuing the issues that set your soul on fire, loving and celebrating, helping people and just being the best possible version of yourself. Things may not always be easy, and yes, obstacles are bound to be on the way, but it is our attitude that determines the course of our life. Step away from the shadows, let go of fear and worry, don’t live on the periphery of life, and take each day as a blank slate.
God said to the Israelites, “See, I have set before you today life and death, good and evil”. The choice is ours, but for me, I choose life in all its fullness, over and over again.
