So a lot of us Christians, especially those raised in the Western part of Africa have some major issues with coming to grips with reality… We are mostly under the illusion that nothing bad happens to the christian folk. You know that one? It’s pretty common…

Now I’m not talking about the assurance that you’re secure cause you’re in Christ… I’m talking about the misconception that nothing bad will happen to you cause you’re in Christ. It’s simply not true.

Jesus did say, “In this world, you will have trouble.”( John 16:33). I guess a lot of people skip this part in the great book. They keep asking, “Why do bad things happen to good people?”

So let’s see, Joseph was just seventeen when his brothers sold him as a slave to the Egyptians. How cruel is that? Then, while he was working faithfully, his master’s wife decided he was too handsome to be an ordinary servant. She wanted to sleep with him. When he refused, she framed him and he was put in prison.

Y’all know Travis Greene? He was just four years old when he fell four floors out of the window…

And Ryan? The little boy that’s trending on facebook? He was just an infant and he was dying cause he couldn’t get what you and I take for granted: good nourishment… And his sister, McKenzie? She’s just a little sweet princess. She hasn’t even hurt anybody but she has down syndrome and congenital heart disease.

And David? He was barely seventeen when he faced the mighty giant that Saul, the Israelite king was terrified of. And afterwards he became a wanderer cause Saul sought him to kill him.

In John 16:33, Jesus said, “In this world you will have trouble”…. But He didn’t stop there. He also assured us, “But be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

Jesus also promised that, “All things work together for good to them that love God.” Romans 8:28.

Travis Greene knew that well. He survived that terrible accident. He said he never hit the ground cause Jesus caught him. He has such a profound testimony and he’s a blessing to this generation. (Y’all should check out his song, Intentional).

Joseph became Prime Minister in Egypt and he was reunited with his family.

David became king in Israel.

Ryan and Mackenzie were adopted by a wonderful family and I’m certain God has got great plans for them.

So, of course some pretty bad stuff will happen but God will see you through you it.

Then again, when Donnie McClurkin asked God why he had a rough childhood, God said, “For others to be saved, someone has got to be crucified…”

So you’re not being punished, you’re being refined…

Remember this blessed scripture in 2Corinthians 1:3-4.

Blessed  be the God and Father of our Lord  Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of  all comfort, who comforts us in all our  tribulation, that we may be able to comfort  those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

  1. This is so beautifully written. Such a great reminder to Christian’s and a eye opener for those who have yet to found Christ and are skeptical because of the bad in the world. I have shared this on Facebook and hope it reaches many. God bless. Looking forward to reading more!
